Mercyhurst North East claims conference softball honors

Mercyhurst North East’s Brian Dewey was named Western New York Athletic Conference softball coach of the year, as the Saints had six players named to the all-WNYAC first team Tuesday.

Sophomore pitcher Ronette Claar led the Saints with 173 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched. She finished the season with an ERA of 0.99.

Sophomore shortstop Alayna Carlson led the Saints in batting average (.514), home runs (15) and RBIs (69).

Freshman Kelsey Drummond, who hit .362 with five home runs, was named as a utility player.

Freshmen Sam Mott (.446, 14 doubles), Shannon Morrill (.391) and Julia Lang (.386, five home runs, 32 RBIs) also made the first team.

The Saints went 6-0 in the conference and 37-6 overall.
